The History of Welshy Contracting and Mark Davies ‘Welshy’
Welshy Contracting is a family-owned and operated business based in Ashburton, proudly serving communities across the South Island. What began in 2004 as a single digger and truck has grown into a trusted contracting company with a team of around 20 skilled operators, drivers, and support staff — all sharing the same commitment to quality workmanship and honest service.
Our roots go back to Wales, where Mark “Welshy” Davies first built his experience in rural contracting before bringing his skills — and his family — to New Zealand in 2001. Today, that same hands-on, can-do attitude remains at the heart of everything we do.
We offer a wide range of services including asphalting, underground fibre and power installation, fencing, machinery hire, and agricultural contracting. Whether it’s a large civil project, on-farm work, or a small residential job, we approach every task with pride, reliability, and the right gear to get it done properly.
A new chapter has recently begun for the business, with our daughter Megan and her partner Michael officially joining the team. Bringing fresh energy and new ideas, they represent the next generation of Welshy Contracting — ensuring the same strong values continue well into the future (and hopefully giving the oldies a chance at a holiday or two!).

Mark Davies, Welshy
Mark Davies — or as most of you know him, Welshy — is the main man behind Welshy Contracting. With decades of hands-on experience in civil, agricultural, and rural contracting, Welshy brings practical know-how, problem-solving skills, and a genuine passion for tackling new and exciting projects.
He’s the one our clients turn to when they have a tricky job, a big idea, or need some honest advice on how to get a project off the ground.

Kelly Jamison
Kelly has been part of the Welshy Contracting team for over ten years and is the backbone of the office. As our Accounts Manager, she keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes and is the go-to person for anything related to invoicing, payments, or account enquiries.
If you have any accounting needs or questions, Kelly is the one to contact.

Monday & Thursday — 9:00am to 3:00pm
Outside these times, please get in touch via phone or email, and she’ll be happy to help
Michael Oliver
Michael joined the Welshy Contracting team a few years ago and has quickly become a key part of our agricultural division. Originally from the UK, he brings years of hands-on experience in farming, fencing, and rural contracting, making him a valuable asset across all on-farm work.
With exceptional machinery skills and a strong commitment to doing the job right, Michael has now stepped into a larger leadership role, becoming part of the business as a Director. He continues to lead our agricultural services while helping guide the future direction of Welshy Contracting.
Michael specialises in hedge cutting, operating our high-reach equipment with precision, efficiency, and a tidy finish every time.

Megan Davies
Megan has grown up around Welshy Contracting and has been involved in the business for many years. Now stepping into an official role as a Director, she is proud to be part of the next generation helping carry the company forward.
You’ll usually find Megan in the office keeping everything organised and supporting clients with bookings and enquiries. If you need anything at all, Megan is your go-to person
